Repair or replace? How to decide.
If the repair costs more than half of what your phone is worth, replace it. If it costs less and your phone still gets updates, fixing it is usually the better deal.

The rule of thumb
If the repair costs more than half of what the phone is worth, replace it. If it costs less, a repair usually makes more sense.
Screens, batteries and charging ports are the most common fixes. They’re usually well under that line.
Quick checklist
Ask yourself these four questions. If you say yes to most of them, repair it.
- Is your phone under 4 years old? Newer phones are worth more and last longer.
- Is battery health 80% or more? If not, add a battery swap to the repair cost.
- Does it still get software updates? Updates keep your phone safe from hackers. Check Settings › General › Software Update on iPhone, or Settings › Software update on Android.
- Do you have enough storage? If you’re always deleting photos to make room, a new phone may be worth it.
Replacing it? Trade it in.
Even a broken phone can be worth money. Trade it in and put the value toward something newer.
